Where are appointments held?
Face-to-face consultations are available at Nuffield Hereford and Nuffield Cheltenham. This makes specialist sleep and respiratory assessment accessible to people across Hereford, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Tewkesbury, the Forest of Dean, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury and neighbouring areas of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh borders.
Who is this for?
An in-person appointment may suit you if you:
- Have symptoms of sleep apnoea, such as snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing or unrefreshing sleep
- Remain tired despite using CPAP
- Have excessive daytime sleepiness, restless legs or a suspected circadian rhythm disorder
- Have breathing problems that may be related to sleep, including obesity-related breathing difficulty
- Would like a second opinion on an existing diagnosis or sleep study
- Simply prefer to be seen in person
No GP referral is needed, although a referral letter is welcome. If you plan to use private medical insurance, please contact us before booking so we can discuss your cover.
What to expect at an in-person appointment
Your consultation is unhurried and focused on your own story. Dr Manuel will ask about your symptoms, sleep pattern, medical history, medication and daily life, and review any previous tests or CPAP data you bring. He will examine you where appropriate, explain what he thinks is going on and discuss which tests, if any, would be helpful. Many investigations, including home sleep testing, can then be arranged to take place at home.
Afterwards you receive a written consultant letter outlining the findings and a clear plan, which can be shared with your GP with your consent. It helps to bring a list of your current medicines, any sleep study reports and your CPAP device, card or data if you use treatment.
Why be seen locally?
Some conditions are easier to assess in person, and many people feel more comfortable discussing sensitive symptoms face to face. Being seen locally also makes it simpler to arrange follow-up, to review equipment such as a CPAP mask in the room, and to involve a partner or family member who has noticed your symptoms. Whichever route you choose, the aim is the same: a clear explanation and a practical plan that fits your life.
Remote consultations for those further afield
If you live outside the area, or would prefer not to travel, remote consultations are available throughout the UK. Many people find this convenient, and the assessment is led by the same consultant. Face-to-face and remote consultations can be combined where needed, for example a remote first appointment followed by an in-person review.
